Due to a Chieftaincy dispute, residents in Lugni flee as gunshots ring out.

After a chieftaincy dispute that resulted in multiple gunshots, the Lugni residents of the Nanumba South District of the Northern Region are fleeing for their lives.

The conflict started when one Konkomba leader was given kola by the regent of Bimbilla to become the chief of the Konkombas in Lugni. However, a different clan of Konkombas opposed that choice.

The fighting tribes are the Binyam and Naamuhi families.

The aggrieved clan began firing shots on Thursday night, according to sources who spoke with Citi News, as preparations were being made to expel the chief. The Binyam clan is said to have attacked the Naamuhi clan.

The Binyam clan opposes the Naamuhi clan's nomination as Lugni's Konkomba chief by the regent of Bimbilla, which led to the shooting on Thursday evening.

The town has experienced significant tension as a result.

In the interim, the military and police have entered to salvage the situation.

The police have affirmed the episode and said they are exploring the matter. They have also pleaded for the town to remain calm.
