MP urges Finance Minister to release funds to deal with flooding.

Isaac Asiamah, Chairman of Parliament's Works and Housing Committee, has written to Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to request funds to address the nation's recurring flooding.

This comes after Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Minister of Works and Housing, pleaded with Parliament to consider allocating a portion of the road and sanitation levy funds to the Ministry in order to assist it in addressing the issue.

Responding to the show, Mr Asiamah said the Service should be enough resourced to release its command.

"I'm blissful today that the money serve is here. Flooding ought to be mentioned when we prioritize areas. The minister for works and housing suffered greatly last year because he received only 18 percent of his release. He requested that the minister of finance provide funding for the works and housing ministries so that they can function.

However, in light of the government's efforts to lessen the effects of flooding, the Minority Chief Whip of the Government of Agbodza called for a shift in mindset.

"Sometimes it is more than just the lack of money. We are creating the issues, not natural disasters. He stated, "The Minister of Finance can actually go and desilt all the gutters, but because we have gone to block more channels the flooding will still happen. He will give us the money if we all neglect the regulations around building in waterways."
